I Talk to Strangers: Day One Wally O.

I am going to use my 30 day challenge to revisit a previous 30 day challenge from 2010. This time I have learned from my mistakes and am getting model releases each day and plan to eventually publish a book titled "I Talk to Strangers". I have found this to be a very difficult challenge so on those inevitable days when no one will allow me to photograph them, I will just use one of the list items instead.

For my first day I photographed Wally O. from Sparks Nevada. I have known Wally for quite a while but did meet him as a total stranger the first time I lived in Nevada. Wally was born in Pennsylvania in 1937 and has an incredible sense of humor. He is currently struggling with dementia but still helps a lot of people with his stories from the past. He was homeless in his younger years and shares his life experiences with anyone who needs help.

  1. Oh, I am soooo glad to see this theme come to life again. I was in complete awe of you doing this last time and will no doubt be again. This is a fantastic shot to start your 30 days and I look forward to seeing more. Fabulously well done!

  2. Rick, this image brings me right back to the fantastic series you did a few years ago. You are so fabulous at this and I'm glad you have decided to tackle it again. One day you will need to do a show of your fantastic portraits. Simply incredible. Looking forward to the rest of the month. :-) Maggie

  5. It's always interesting to hear the stories of strangers.
I would love to do a portrait series like this one day - but 30 day straight may be logistically impossible for me! Good luck!

Getting those releases and creating a book sounds like a great plan. I'm confident you'll find a new stranger every day.
